- Accountable Talk is more than just chat. It holds student accountable to the classroom community. It is rigorous reasoning. It is an attempt to be accurate.

- Types of talk moves can be categorized so teachers can share strategies and think about effects.

- Seemingly straightforward conversations can be leveraged to become authentic checks for intelligibility, coherence, engagement, and participation.

- These moves are not intended to be a fixed list, but rather a starting point for discussion.

- Talk moves help teachers make what is said intelligible and build coherence so that instruction maintains a logical flow. They also maintain student engagement and motivation and ensure equitable participation.
