- "Justify" is considered a general-purpose word so students generally rely on usage examples to learn the meaning.

- Case: Teacher presents a variety of examples of “justify” in context, but students seem to struggle.

- Talk moves in this case include restating the question to make the task of comparison more explicit and revoicing a comment about the word's root.

- The dialogue here emphasizes that talk moves must be in response to what students offer in discussion. The moves are tools to navigate situations as they arise.
